I want and I need to lead a simple life
I think I’ve worked out
What’s wrong and what’s right
The problem is, yeah the sad thing is
It’s taken me most, it’s taken me most
It’s taken me most of my life
Taken me most of my life………….
My life!
I want and I need to lead a simple life
I think I’ve worked out,
What’s wrong and what’s right
The problem is, yes the sad thing is
It’s taken me, it’s taken me, it’s taken me,
It’s taken me, it’s taken me, it’s taken me,
It’s taken me most of my life!
It’s taken me most of my life!
Of my life, of my life………….
It’s taken me most of my life!
Take a look, take a look, take a look at my life
Take a look, take a look, see all the strife
Amid the ecstasy I lost reality
Without my dignity I went and burnt my life
Take a look, take a look, take a look at my life
Take a look, take a look, see all the strife
When I was young I was in rhyme
With eyes wide open all the time.
And all I see are superstitions and spells
On a journey through the fires of...
...“21st century” hell!
(I want and I need, I want and I need....)
To lead a simple life
I’ve worked out
What’s wrong and what’s right!!
(I want and I need, I want and I need....)
When I was young I had this vision,
That I could walk beyond the sun!
When I was young I had this vision,
That I could walk beyond the sun!
Take a look, take a look, take a look at my life
Take a look, take a look, see all the strife
Amid the ecstasy I lost reality
Without my dignity I went and burnt my life
Take a look, take a look, at my life
Take a look, take a look, see all the strife
Chorus
When I was young I was in rhyme
With eyes wide open all the time.
Much older now – sarcasm blinds,
The truth tastes bitter – and all tears went dry,
I’ve lost in a shore-less sea of a flaming rye.
I’ve dug the dirt, striking the bloom
Hiding the pain inside the gloom,
Waiting for the sentence inside your room.
But all I’ve found are superstitions and spells,
Oh, my dear, did you sleep well?
On a journey through the fires of “21st century” hell

BBT are standard bearers for modern prog, with a sound that evokes the spirit of those legendary 70s bands whilst managing to also be thoroughly contemporary. It's astonishing that over 30 minutes of music of this quality, with such high production values, is being made available for free - and their full albums are also very reasonably priced... What can I say about Big Big Train that I haven’t said before?
This album took a little while to grow on me but by the time I saw it live I was in love with its humongous, over-egged pomposity! They do it all with such passion, excitement and amazing musicianship.

In the wake of buying the Welcome To The Planet I also went for this older "EP" (clocking in on 70 minutes a rather big big EP...) as a final farewell to a very bright bright star that sadly doesn't shine anymore. Carsten Pieper
A spirited, modern imagining of classic ’70s prog; Pink Floyd vocalist Durga McBroom and Finnish prog icon Jukka Gustavson guest. Bandcamp New & Notable May 10, 2023
The album takes off nicely with David Longdon's "The Strangest Times", but then gets into immediate free fall and deeply underwater for the next few tracks, quite unexpectedly. Fortunately, it recovers with Nick D'Virgilio's "Apollo" (hey, this guy CAN write good music, although he hides this ability most of the time) and the remaining three tracks, one of which is another Longdon masterpiece. So in the end the final impression is somewhat in the positive range. Sven B. Schreiber (sbs)
